Why we love them
Onoyoshi snips are one of those tools that speak for themselves once you hold them.
Based in Miki city in Hyōgo Prefecture, Onoyoshi began making garden secateurs in 1964 having been making knives since 1936. The quality of these tools are evident and are probably the most handmade product we have seen.
Made from Japanese high carbon content steel, they offer a great balance of strength and ease of use. They are hand forged from a single piece of steel using traditional techniques. The end result provide a great feel, balance and cutting action.
Measuring 180mm long with 50mm blades, they are ideal for any detailed pruning work where strength is not the issue. For heavier pruning work we recommend the Onoyoshi Secateurs, to give that little more strength.
The handles are adorned with hand stitched leather covers to make them comfortable to use. The tan leather covers will age and darken with use to develop their own distinctive look.
Used in Japan to prune pine candles (mekiri) in late spring, they are equally at home around the garden.
Presented in a box with a spare spring, Onoyoshi snips make a great gift for gardeners.
